It's not the first time that protests at the Capitol have turned violent or deadly - July 28, 1932 "In protest to the Senate's action, the Bonus Army veterans marched down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol Building. The D.C. police reacted violently, resulting in the deaths of two veterans and two police officers." "The principal demand of the Bonus Army was the immediate cash payment of their certificates. On July 28, 1932, U.S. Attorney General William D. Mitchell ordered the veterans removed from all government property. Washington police met with resistance, shot at the protestors, and two veterans were wounded and later died." WWI veterans asking the government to pay them the bonus they had been promised to fight the Hun in Europe.
