Never See The Forest for the Trees

Or, in the case of people out to save the world from itself, they don't seem to see the trees right in front of them because of their focus on the forest.  Works both ways.  Either a person has a sense of balance and timing, or they don't.  It can't be learned or taught.  It's either there, or it isn't.  Good luck with all that.  History says "You're gonna need it".
